Take a breath with me. Inhale… and let it go. In the last lesson you learned to walk gently. Now we build the anchor, the place inside you that holds steady, so that wherever this journey takes you, you always have a way home.

The AnchorWhat an Inner Resource Is
An inner resource is a felt sense of safety, steadiness, or peace that lives inside you and that you can return to at will. It is your anchor for the whole journey. When the deeper work stirs something difficult, you will not be left with the difficulty alone, you will have a place to come home to, inside yourself. We build it now, while you are calm, and we practise it until it is strong, so that it is already there, steady and familiar, when you need it later.
What matters is not the image but the felt sense in the body when you bring it to mind: the softening, the slight settling, the breath that drops a little lower. That body-feeling is the resource. The image is just the door to it. This is how the nervous system learns safety, not by being told, but by being shown, again and again, a felt experience of okay-ness.
You are building, inside yourself, a place you cannot be evicted from.
Four Kinds of Resource
A resource can take many forms. Read these and notice which one your body leans toward, that leaning is your doorway.
| Kind | Examples |
|---|---|
| A memory | A moment of complete safety: a grandmother’s kitchen, the sea at dawn, a sleeping child’s weight on your chest. |
| A place | Real or imagined, where nothing is required of you and all is well: a cabin, a forest, a warm room with a locked door. |
| A being | A figure of love or protection: a beloved person, a wise elder, an animal, a spiritual presence. |
| A body-sense | The simple felt sense of the ground holding you, warmth in the chest, the weight of your own steady breath. |
A Story
A man who had spent his life feeling fundamentally unsafe could not, at first, find a single memory of peace. So we built one. We imagined, in detail, a small cabin in the snow, a fire, a heavy blanket, a locked door, no one needing anything from him. We returned to it daily.
Within two weeks his body had learned the route so well that, in a moment of real distress weeks later, he closed his eyes, found the cabin, and felt his shoulders drop for the first time in the chaos. He had built, inside himself, a place he could not be evicted from.
Journaling
1. When in my life have I felt even a little safe, steady, or at peace? What was around me?
2. What did my body feel like in that moment, where, exactly, did the ease live?
3. If no memory comes, what place, person, or presence would feel that way, even if I have to imagine it?
4. Which of the four kinds of resource does my body lean toward most?
The Calm-Place Installation
| Draws on | Resourcing and the Calm/Safe Place (Somatic Experiencing, used in EMDR) |
| Time | 10 minutes, once a day this week |
| You will need | Quiet, and a few undisturbed minutes |
This is how you install a resource so deeply that a single touch can call it back. Repetition is the secret, the body learns the route by walking it daily.
Being Held by the Ground
| Tradition | Embodied grounding, the contemplative sense of being held by something larger |
| Time | 3 to 5 minutes |
| You will need | A chair or the floor |
One. An inner resource is a felt sense of safety you can return to at will, your anchor for the whole journey.
Two. It can be a memory, a place, a being, or a simple body-sense. The felt sense matters more than the image.
Three. Installed through daily repetition and paired with a physical anchor, it becomes reachable in an instant.
Four. Beneath the constructed self, you are already held. Do not begin Module 1 until your resource feels real and reachable.
You now have two gifts that will hold you for the rest of this journey: the gentleness to walk slowly, and an anchor to return to. With these in place, we are ready to begin the real work, gently meeting the self you were given.
Take a breath with me. Your safe place goes with you now. With love, Mistress Anna
